The Throne of Grace

£75.00
Information

Please note this will not be available again till the middle of September.

This is a skilfully made 35cm (14") replica, in tough resin, of a medieval alabaster piece in the Abbey Church at Ampleforth. This configuration of the Trinity, examples of which can be found throughout England, is known as The Throne of Grace, the Throne of Mercy or the Byland Trinity.
It shows God the Father, seated in his majesty, receiving the acceptable sacrifice of his Son on the Cross, his right hand raised to bless the World again (this is the disc at the foot of the cross), while the Holy Spirit is perched on top of the cross bearing the olive branch of peace.

The original alabaster trinity that is in Ampleforth Abbey Church was rescued from nearby Byland Abbey in the early 1800s as the building was sold and became derelict.
