This lovely, well manufactured 9 carat gold medal is double sided, see photographs. It is 18 mm diameter and comes supplied with a gift presentation case. A chain will need to be sourced separately for this medal.
On the face of the medal you will see a cross in Benedict's hand, the Christian symbol of salvation, and is his left his Rule for Monasteries. You may also notice a cup to his right - this was the poisoned cup which shattered when he made the sign of the cross over it. On his left is a raven, who is about to carry away the poisoned bread sent by a jealous enemy.
It is the survival of the attempt on his life that has lead to St. Benedict being the patron saint of kidney disease.
