The Ampleforth Crest: This is the coat which was issued to Ampleforth in 1922 by the College of Arms when application was made to it to regularise Ampleforth's armorial position as the lineal descendant of Westminster. The purpose of this move was to conform to proper authority and thus not be open to the charge of lack of consideration for post-Reformation bodies already bearing Westminster Arms in their own line of descent.
