St Laurence is the patron saint of Ampleforth abbey and College.
He was martyred in Rome in 258 by being roasted alive on a gridiron. For this reason the gridiron motif features on the old Amplefordian Ties, and is incorporated in some of 'Mousey' Thompson's furniture here, and even in the architecture of the place.
We are offering here a discreet, 1cm wide lapel pin, it is an excellent way to show a connection with us here at the Abbey. Particularly good for Old Amplefordians, Oblates, and our many friends.
This is a very affordable piece, made of silver plated brass, the fixing is also brass. It comes presented in a blue drawstring protective bag.
The pin has a rather unusual fastening, it is a little like extending the winder of watch to change the time, however, it makes the Gridiron very secure.
