Monopoly - Ampleforth School Edition

Monopoly is, perhaps, the best-known of all the family board games. The original edition made London street names famous. Since then other editions based on other cities have been made but now, for the first time ever, an Ampleforth version is available.

The properties are all changed to Ampleforth places, including the School Houses, the Cricket Pavilions, the Golf Course, the St Alban Centre and so on, each one having its photograph with its name on the board.

Chance and Community Chest cards include events such as, "Found wearing a tweed suit at High Mass - pay 10 pounds', 'Appointed Head Monitor - collect 200 pounds'. The Go to Jail card is, naturally, 'Put in Sat Rap'.

The rules are the same and the pieces are still the traditional ones: top hat, motor car, iron etc.

All the profits from this item are donated to the Bursary Fund to enable good students to attend Ampleforth who otherwise could not do so.

These sterling silver cufflinks were commissioned by us from Camusso in Peru. Each pair of shields shows the Ampleforth crest on one side and the Gridiron symbol of St Laurence on the other. They are die cut for extra clarity of image. The lower surface of the relief is stippled so that it will not need polishing. The chain and shank between the shields is designed to keep the faces vertical in the cuff.

After more than a year, we are once again able to offer this handmade tapestry fronted cushion,18" x 18" (46cm x 46cm), in this new design. It is fully finished, backed in deep red velvet, trimmed with twisted cord. It makes a quality memento, and a highly acceptable gift. The Ampleforth shield shows the ancient coat-of-arms of Westminster Abbey, our historic home. Above the blue wavy line representing the River Thames are the crossed keys of St Peter, the patron of Westminster Abbey, and the cross and marlets of St King Edward the Confessor who rebuilt and endowed it. It has a zip opening at back, for a filler pad (not supplied).

These enamel cufflinks show the shield and motto of Ampleforth College. The motto, Dieu le Ward (God guard it) derives from the town in Lorraine where the monastic community lived in exile for 200 years, Dieulouard. There are two fittings, a swivelling cross-bar or a chain-linked oval, enamelled with the red and black of Ampleforth.

The design of the Old Amplefordian tie was re-worked with T. M. Lewin of Jermyn Street. This version has black as the background colour, but preserving the gunmetal grey, the red and the black of our traditional colours. This is suitable for formal wear. It is made from pure silk reppe.

Although the dark background pattern of the Old Ampleforth colours has been hugely popular since its launch for 2002, many Old Boys have been asking for the silver background pattern to be available again. Pure silk.

This tie carries the gridiron symbol. The patron saint of Ampleforth Abbey is St Laurence who was martyred by being roasted on a gridiron in the 3rd century.

Until 2010 it was only unavailable in "silk polyester" but now we stock it in pure silk. If you know somone who likes to wear the Gridiron, an upgrade would undoubtedly be a very welcome gift!

Although the Ampleforth College Beagles were disbanded in the mid-nineties, they were acquired in their entirety by some OAs and local supporters and re-kennelled locally. Many generations of Old Amplefordians ran with these hounds when they were used for hunting hares. This is the tie that celebrates those memories. It is pure silk.
